I’ve been part of the Cabarrus County community for over 19 years. We moved to this area from Indiana in 2004. I’ve worked full time for the City of Concord Aviation Department helping run the Concord-Padgett Regional Airport. For the last eleven years I’ve had the privilege of serving as an elected board member on the Cabarrus County School Board and this year as board chair.
I also have been involved in serving our community in other ways over the years as well. I am an active volunteer with our church at Connect Christian. I’ve been part of several local United Way and Cabarrus Visitors Bureau activities and events. I’ve been a youth basketball coach, a board member on the Cabarrus County Education Foundation, and am a Chamber of Commerce Leadership Cabarrus Alumni as well as a past club president of a local Toastmasters club.
I have been married 22 years to my lovely wife Amie and we have two boys, Thomas and Matthew, and a 6 year old dog Zoe. I am a CCS Parent with one student at Cabarrus Opportunity School and my oldest graduated as part of the Class of 2020.
I have a calling to serve and passion for education, families, and a strong community. I believe I have had a positive influence on the School Board and a good working relationship with my fellow board members, school staff, and other elected officials. I've done my best to learn all aspects of how the school systems functions and the issues we face. I carefully research all matters that come before the board to make the best decision I can make, even if that decision or vote is the sole opposition or supporting vote.
I champion openness and community input into matters facing our school system and support proposals that benefit our students be it engagement, achievement, safety, facilities, teachers, staff, or resources.
Besides participating in called board meetings, I have visited every school, attended numerous events, trainings, meet with teachers, administrators, and CCS department staff, parents and students, and community members to learn and show support for our school system. I'm a strong believer in arts education, Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs (i.e. High School academies, STEM, ROTC, FFA), and extra curricular and leadership development activities for students and athletes. I've participated in IEP meetings and try to ensure we support our EC students and families. I am also an advocate and supporter of our skilled teachers in the classroom and non-certified staff that support them.
I hope to have the opportunity to continue to serve and make a positive difference for our students and community and ask for your support and vote.
